Doug grew up in Hawai'i and has been a full time artist-painter since 1973.
From Roosevelt High School, he received his BFA at Coe College in Iowa, lived and worked in New Youk City at O.K. Harris Gallery and attended NYU. He was Duane Hanson's (realist sculptor) assistent in Soho and Köln, Germany.
The past 42 years, he has applied the 70's photorealism style from New York to Hawaii's contemporary imagery in paintings and mixed media.
The Hawai'i State Foundation of Culture and Arts has collected his work, awarded him one of the first individual Artist Fellowships, and chose him for several large glass commissions.
Five large glass murals are at the new Judical Building in Kapolei and an art glass pool floor at the Hawai'i State Museum's outdoor Scupture Garden.
Doug is usually busy painting at his home/studio for private commissions. He is married to another artist, Babs Miyano-Young and they have to twebty-someting year old daughters...(enough said).
He is always been an active waterman/surfer and more recently, an avid bowhunter helping private landowners with invasive species.
